About me
I've always loved finding creative ways to reuse things, giving them a second life and a new purpose.
During lockdown, while searching for a creative outlet, I picked up a ball of string and tried macrame for the first time. I loved it immediately, especially the feeling of making something new with my hands.
It wasn't long before I started thinking how I could make and enjoy my craft in a more meaningful and environmentally conscious way. Then one beach walk changed everything...a single piece of rope washed up at my feet and gave me an idea. I took it home, cleaned it up and made my first sustainable piece. That moment set the course for Knot in the Sea - a way to do something I love while helping the environment at the same time.
I've spent the years since learning the ropes (excuse the pun!). Unlike traditional macrame cord, fishing rope has a mind of its own - it takes more effort, patience and persuasion to coax each knot into place, while working against the rope's memory and condition. Each piece of rope carries traces of its time at sea and I love knotting that history - the rust stains, weathering and texture - into my work.
Made to evoke sun, sea and sand, my pieces are inspired by life on the North Devon coast - its sandy bays, rolling surf and fresh sea air.
